Myanmar Wars Update No 1

Myanmar Wars Emergency – AFA “Helping Hands” Action

This year alone large numbers of people have died in Myanmar. Right now some 100,000 are displaced (refugees), most of them Christians – and the world either does not know it, does n ot want to know it, or is simply silent. Large parts of the Katchin and Karen States of Myanmar are in rebellion. It is confirmed that the Christian villages are always treated far worse by the Army than the Buddhist villages.

The war in Katchin State has been going on for a long time but right now it is reaching a new climax. It’s just one of the wars in Myanmar. The regime is as brutal as ever but under the veneer of democracy, and an absolute news blackout imposed, it is now getting away with murder, literally. The big Christian aid organisations are very limited in what they can do, that is, if they don’t want to fall out with the government and be thrown out. So it’s even more important that we help because we can and because we must.

Dear AFA supporter, dear reader,

As you know, we are fortunate to get our information from sources that are certain and reliable, in fact, from our long time friends. And they don’t exaggerate. The days are bad.

People are driven by emotion, not facts, not by the overall picture. Big media coverage brings big response, no media coverage brings very limited response. The worst crimes on earth are often hidden from our eyes. It can be one picture alone that persuades people to give – well written articles rarely do that. In the Syrian War it was the famous picture of the body of a boy washed ashore that opened the floodgates of incredible generosity in many countries. One picture alone!

We are blessed by usually getting a good response. I am pleased to inform you that some $11,000 has already been raised – and much of it has gone to Myanmar already. AFA HELPING HANDS ACTION is running for another 2-3 weeks only. There will be another update.

Trip into the War Zone

This Thursday, 28 June, one of our people leaves for Katchin State. He writes:
"Please remember us in your prayer for our safety. There are land mines along the way to that area, laid by both armies, the insurgent army and the national army. Most mountains are full of land mines too. Few dare to travel on some of the roads but we have to go because the suffering is heart breaking and more than one hundred thousand people are caught up in this. My group wants to help the children in a special way."

The author continues on the topic of the relationship between MATERIAL AND SPIRITUAL HELP:
"Beyond supporting and feeding the hungry, our vision is to help people in need generally and share the Gospel. The Gospel is the only thing to heal their broken hearts and to start their lives anew. Most people lost their hope and don’t want to continue their lives as they lost their families and everything in the war. Physical needs are very important as are their spiritual needs"

The situation is terribly bad. It is getting worse by the day. People are running from one place to another and are in hiding. Children lose their parents and their future. They don’t have enough food and shelter. I’m so sad to see one word on their faces: “hopelessness”. We must help.
